The Calm During A Storm
There was a time when I posted almost daily as I shared out my learnings as a parent of a young disabled child. I was learning so many things about our culture, my child’s physical and cognitive needs and I desperately wanted to build a community of other families so we would never feel alone.
All of that work led to some incredible things as Jordan and I worked to change the narrative around disabilities.
I’m proud of it all. And we won’t stop this work. But right now, we are taking our time ramping back up to full activities.
I am working with an awesome team at Princeton to start small, regional in-person events around youth disability and design. And I’m proud to be the parent liaison for this summer’s Amputee Coalition Youth Camp where Design With Us gets a chance to share some fun activities around design with the campers. As we navigate the pandemic, I can’t wait to return to our full five-day workshops!
I can’t write about parenting like I used to. Jordan’s story is hers and I’ll share what she’s comfortable sharing. As Jordan’s mom and the co-founder of Design With Us, I know Jordan needs time and space to return to the good work we’ve done through the years. And because she needs time and space, it’s requiring my time as well. Our silence doesn’t mean we don’t want our organization to grow, but for now, we need to focus on our family before we can return to our community in full force.
Thanks to each and every person who has supported us through the years. I can’t wait to ramp back up to full speed when we’re ready.
